Mark Steyn says that if we got real about our fiscal woes we could certainly have another great American century. But if we get out of the “superpower business” as we voted to do last night, Steyn says, then we’re headed for a world of chaos. He says forget about the nonsense of China taking over or a one-world order with Muslims or anyone else. He says it will be a world without order, a world of chaos if the United States loses it’s superpower status.
I think Mark Steyn is brilliant in how he has put together the various macro trends in demographics and economics. I really recommend his books America Alone & After America.
obama has locked in the demise of the USA. Our debt is now so large that reducing the military by half is not that unlikely. China has bought such a large amount of our bonds that interest on these bonds is paying for their military budget. It is inevitable that the USA will have to withdraw from a large number of bases we have around the world and with the decreases in our navy the USA will be unable to project power around the globe.
The question is as this occurs is who on the world stage will protect concepts such as individual human rights, property rights, and non aggression of nation states. China won't, they don't believe in any of those things and are busy building an Asian empire. India won't, they are so bureaucratic they can't get things done quickly and are dealing with a more immediate muslim problem. Brazil won't, they are in the early stages of economic development and are focused on South America. Russia won't, they have no history of supporting those concepts. Europe won't, they don't even have military's to speak of. I think the answer is the world will get a lot worse as the USA declines.
How do we respond after we tell everyone "I told you so".
I've already started investing outside the USA and am looking at opportunities in Central America.
