Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) on Tuesday told Breitbart News that he will buck McConnell, Cornyn and Reid, and supports the position of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). Rubio made the remarks in response to the news that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn are whipping GOP votes on the Continuing Resolution (CR) in such a way that would allow Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to fund Obamacare.
“ObamaCare is making it harder for hard working Americans to achieve the American Dream,” Rubio said in an email. “That is why when I ran for the Senate I pledged to do everything I could to stop ObamaCare. A vote for cloture will make it easier for Senate Democrats to preserve this job killing law. That is why I will vote no on the motion to cut off debate."
Cruz is procedurally trying to stop Reid from stripping out the defunding Obamacare from the CR that the House just passed. If Senate Republicans stand together, they can prevent Reid from doing so after cloture. Rubio’s support for Cruz comes at a crucial moment, when it is now clear that not only do McConnell and Cornyn personally oppose Cruz, but they are working against him. Breitbart News reported on Monday evening that McConnell and Cornyn are actually whipping votes against Cruz.
