Wham! #ObamaCare Creates 'Two-Tier' Health System as Insurers Restrict Choices to Cut Costs And you know what, this isn't a bug. It's a feature.
All is proceeding just as the Democrats planned.
At the Washington Post, "Insurers restricting choice of doctors and hospitals to keep costs down": As Americans have begun shopping for health plans on the insurance exchanges, they are discovering that insurers are restricting their choice of doctors and hospitals in order to keep costs low, and that many of the plans exclude top-rated hospitals.
The Obama administration made it a priority to keep down the cost of insurance on the exchanges, the online marketplaces that are central to the Affordable Care Act. But one way that insurers have been able to offer lower rates is by creating networks that are far smaller than what most Americans are accustomed to.
The decisions have provoked a backlash. In one closely watched case, Seattle Children’s Hospital has filed suit against Washington’s insurance commissioner after a number of insurers kept it out of their provider networks. “It is unprecedented in our market to have major insurance plans exclude Seattle Children’s,” said Sandy Melzer, senior vice president.
The result, some argue, is a two-tier system of health care: Many of the people who buy health plans on the exchanges have fewer hospitals and doctors to choose from than those with coverage through their employers.
I remember arguing with liberals who believed that they would have premier healthcare because of the subsidies the government would provide. They argued that they would have the same insurance option that my husband's employer provides for him as compensation for his industry on his employer's behalf. It would be "gifted" to them like a big Christmas gift with a bright red bow on top.
When I told them that not only could I lose my insurance, my doctor and my expert care at the best facilities in Atlanta, they refused to believe me.
I now believe that they were lying.
I believe that they wanted the bar lowered for ME. They wanted me to have the same substandard care that they managed to eek by on. They wanted me to have to struggle without my doctor who I have a long-term relationship with and without the better treatment options. They wanted me to suffer as they did.
Share the misery for all.
This is what we have become? It makes me ill.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson
