Recently, Republican governor Chris Christie has come under fire for his alleged involvement in a traffic crisis caused by lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, supposedly predicated on some bitter revenge plot meant to punish a political opponent.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson
"If people can’t trust not only the executive branch but also don’t trust Congress, and don’t trust federal judges, to make sure that we’re abiding by the Constitution with due process and rule of law, then we’re going to have some problems here." - Barack Obama, June 7, 2013
He correctly calls moderates for what they are but at same time reminds us not to let Christie's current media bashing steer us from our conservative values. It a bit of a muddles message
ZitatAmerican Thinker by William Sullivan January 15, 2014: So it's worth asking: why is it that the left can proudly run and support a left-wing extremist like Obama, who is extreme in both fiscal and social terms, but the right must continually rely upon the hope of a centrist candidate to garner independent votes?
The reason is quite simple. Obama governs from the Far Left but always campaigned as a Moderate. The media, except for FOX, played along with the game and painted Obama as a Moderate. The Far Left all gave each other a knowing wink and allowed Obama to play the Moderate Game. When it comes to Presidential politics, the Left has learned the Political Willy Sutton Rule: Your campaign needs to go where the money is.
By contrast, any GOP primary candidate that strays in the slightest degree from Conservative Political Purity is eaten alive in the Southern Primaries. In GOP Primary Debate after GOP Primary Debate, the entire U.S.A. is treated to a More-Conservative-Than-Thou knife fight where even Mitt Romney is trying to portray himself as more Conservative than the Governor of Texas. The slightest drop of Moderate blood in the water results in a Political Purity Piranha feeding frenzy as the “RINO” is devoured to the bone. That is an absolutely fantastic political strategy ….. If you are trying to get elected as the Governor of Alabama. Outside of the Deep South and outside of the hardcore Bible Belt, however, the reaction of the majority of American voters is to run in the opposite direction.
Come Election Day, in the Moderate Swing States needed to actually get elected President, even a Far Left radical like Obama looks as safe and cuddly as a puppy while even Mitt Romney is deemed to be somewhere to the right of the John Birch Society.
The number of Americans self-identifying as Republicans has been around 30% over the past twenty years. Of those, around 60% are the self-proclaimed “Conservative Base” and around 40% are the hated “RINO’s”.
Do the arithmetic. The GOP Conservative Base represents 18% of America. That leaves 82% of America that is either a hated RINO or even worse in the eyes of the Political Puristans.
What happens when the GOP Primaries are month after month after month of attacks upon 82% of America?
The Far Left radical that did not ACT like a political radical easily gets elected.
Pictorially, it is like this:
Moderate Swing State Voters: You might hate their sissy guts but you need their votes to win the White House. Don't blame me. Blame the Electoral College. I'm just the messenger.
