A Long Island couple was facing serious allegations Thursday evening, claiming they left their four children home alone for six days without any food or heat.
As CBS 2’s Carolyn Gusoff reported, police said the children were left alone in a small house on Dow Street in Central Islip. Their parents – Maria and Tulio Ayala – were charged with endangering the welfare of their children, ages 15, 13, 8, and 4.
Police said they were left without food or heat while the Ayalas stayed at a nearby hotel.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson
