Quote: FP123 wrote in post #8I find it shockingly bizarre that it has become almost an "accepted" fact that gubmint is involved in feeding most children in schools at least one meal per day. I understand in many cities that <hot, cold> breakfast is now SOP and many have snacks and a meal in the "after school" programs. IIRC 10-15 years ago it was much more an exception rather than the rule, I think that only very "low income" children were given some kind of <free, discounted> lunch.
It would seem that the parents should be outraged and apologetic that they forgot to make their own child a sandwich. what does two slices of bread and 2 TBSP of peanut butter cost? I guess that's "raising the bar too high" for parents these days? That's scary. Obama has advanced this group to a mindless dependency and there is this odd expectation that someone else is responsible for their welfare. These are truly sad victims as they apparently have no expectation that they will be able to solve their life issues using their own initiative. It is a very sad state to be in. As I think about helping the needy, I'd like to think that we could offer people a "hand up" instead of "hand outs". If those we helped were on a path to health and self-sufficiency then we wouldn't mind helping --- not at all!
But the "war on poverty" has evolved into a 'war on initiative' and this has created a society of dependents.
"The Republican Party doesn't demonize prosperity. We celebrate success in our party," he said. "And let me be clear, if Republican leaders want to join this president in demonizing success and disparaging conservative values, then they're not going to be fit to be our nominee."
