FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – Maybe the U.S. should get back into the space business. Recent reports have shown that NASA is paying $424 million more dollars to Russia in order to send U.S. astronauts into space. In the Associated Press’ article by Marcia Dunn, the U.S. is paying an increasing amount of money for space travel.
NASA’s chief, Charles Bolden, blamed Congress for the extravagant but necessary expenses. The contract, signed with the Russian Space Agency last Tuesday, is to cover astronaut flights to and from the International Space Station aboard the Russian Soyuz spacecraft in addition to training. The contract goes until the first half of the year 2017.
Russia is the only viable and proven means to get to and from the space station as the private sector is testing space flights.
Bolden blames Congress and asked for more seed money, which he alleged could have been used is to start new ventures, such as the U.S. commercial crew programs currently underway.
Looks like everyone decides to blame Congress these days.
