Curious how the Russell George isn’t a household name this morning. You would think a damning report about the president might actually be headline news. But we guess the media is overreaching in their protection of the corrupt Obama. This story actually did break through late Monday.
The Treasury Inspector General who uncovered the improper targeting of Tea Party groups by the Internal Revenue Service said Monday he was stunned by what his investigation uncovered.
Russell George, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), said the targeting at the IRS his probe discovered was “unprecedented,” and the closest comparison that came to mind was the targeting of political enemies by the administration of Richard Nixon.
“During the Nixon administration, there were attempts to use the Internal Revenue Services in manners that might be comparable in terms of misusing it. I’m not saying the actions taken here are comparable,” he told a House Appropriations subcommittee. “This is unprecedented.”
Unprecedented, as in this has never happened before. That’s how bad this is. Nixon attempted some things where this president has actually succeeded. Any other president would already be under siege, facing calls for impeachment, not just for targeting citizens, but for the egregious DoJ targeting of James Rosen and the Benghazi fiasco. But Obama skates free somehow. We still have no answers as to who ordered the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS. Someone did and we will find out. They can’t keep this covered up forever, even though the media’s doing their best to help.
A key question swirling around the controversy is exactly how IRS employees in Cincinnati came to identify tax-exempt applications for extra scrutiny based in part on Tea Party affiliation decided to take on the practice. Congressional Republicans have expressed disbelief the practice could have been created by low level employees acting out of bounds. George said in conducting his investigation of the practice, IRS employees were asked who gave the direction, and no one would answer the question. Obama’s IRS victims will be testifying today, no doubt to be met by hostile questioning from Democrats. You’ll be lucky to see any coverage outside of Fox News. That’s by design. If only Nixon had such a compliant media.
