I do not believe anything is amiss here, because when the founders set up this system, they created a free and independent press. In fact, they thought it so important they provided for it in the FIRST Amendment.

So - the mainstream press exists to keep us apprised of things that are really, really important - things like the blatant and continuing racism in this awful, bigoted country (on display in the Zimmerman trial); unsafe traveling conditions and the need for even more government regulation (the plane crash in SF); and the ever present threat of global warming.

If we had a tyrant like Nixon or Reagan in office right now, we would be right to worry about totalitarianism - because those men were tyrants. But we have a pure and good-hearted man in Obama - so not to worry.

It's only right-wingers like Levin and Drudge who want to get people upset and stir things up.

Now - back to Jay-Z and Beyonce.
