A Dem poll found her losing by 8 points to the GOP frontrunner.

As speculation continues to swirl around whether Texas state senator Wendy Davis will run for governor, one lobbyist writes that sources tell him she has decided to throw her hat in the ring. According to lobbyist Robert Miller, Davis will face a tough fight whether she runs for her old seat or the governor’s mansion, so she may be looking to capitalize on her burst onto the national stage and seek higher offer.
Davis is largely seen as the Democrats’ top candidate with the most name recognition at this point, so state and national party leaders may rally around her more enthusiastically than around anyone else, particularly as Democrats claim to be making headway in flipping Texas blue. If she were to run, Davis would likely face Republican favorite Texas attorney general Greg Abbott; a Public Policy Polling survey from last month shows Abbott leading Davis 48 percent to 40 in a potential matchup.
