These people never learn. When you raise the cost of something you will either no longer have it or will have it at a price few can afford.
Case in point: medical devices which are slated under ObamaCare to be subjected to a special excise tax in order to fund the program. Speaking out now in opposition to the tax: Sixteen Democratic Senators including Al Franken, Elizabeth Warren, John Kerry, and other Dems whose states are homes to a number of medical device companies.
In other words, these charlatans, all of whom voted for ObamaCare, are not opposed to excessive taxation per se but because it might adversely impact the economies of their own states and thus their chances for reelection.
For example, Franken: Franken and Hagan [D-NC] are facing potentially tough reelection fights in 2014. St. Jude Medical, the multi-billion dollar medical device developer headquartered in Minnesota, has already contributed at least $7,000 to Franken’s 2014 campaign.
Another Dem insider who will be negatively impacted is, St. Jude Medical is not the only important company in the medical device industry for Democrats. Jon Stryker, who gave $2 million to the pro-Obama Super PAC Priorities USA, is the heir to Stryker Corporation, one of the country’s largest medical supply companies.
Styrker is cutting 1,170 jobs in anticipation of the looming medical device excise tax. Stryker announced plans to close down two New York plants by the end of the year in an effort to face the new realities of the industry in 2013.
We can't have that, now can we? These people are our friends. We must take care of them. So, Sixteen Democratic Senators signed onto a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid calling for postponement of the medical device excise tax, which is part of the Affordable Care Act. The tax is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2013. [Another report has it at 18 Democrat Senators]
