Twelve years ago, today, America was momentarily brought to its knees by 19 Al Qaeda terrorists. With the world watching in horror, four planes became the instruments of an incomprehensible evil that took the lives of almost 3,000 innocent people and forever changed the lives of Americans.

Twelve years later, Americans have not forgotten.



But, today, marks yet another anniversary of a radical Islamic attack on America.

On 9/11/2012, radical Islamists attacked the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi with rocket propelled grenades and machine gun fire. They murdered Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and dragged his dead body from the embassy.



Also, tragically lost were Americans Glen Doherty, Tyrone Woods, and Sean Smith.

I was on my way to Washington that morning to visit my parents grave at Arlington my birthday is on the 12th so it was going to be my present to me, I stopped in Va. to gas up about 50 miles from the pentagon exit, when the clerk had told me what happened. I decided to go on when I got to the exit it was closed and had troops standing at the exit so I circled around to get to the GW bridge where is was a mess it took 4 hours to cross the bridge then I headed home, (went back 2 m later to see dad and mom)--That is what I was doing on 9/11

I WILL NEVER FORGET

I am right here in NY and had no clue as to what was going on. Usually, in the morning, I make my coffee and come right to the computer. I would have known right away, if it was a normal morning....but, a friend called me as I was coming to sit on the computer, so I never turned it on. I would have known immediately, because I had a news page as my home page. So, we are yakking away and about a half hour into it..she gets a beep on her call waiting. She comes back a minute later and says to me..we are in trouble. I am thinking..I didnt do anything...lol The call was her son from CA asking her what the hell was going on here..and she was clueless.

So..we both go to put our TVs on. She lives one town over from me with a different cable company. Her TV didnt work because her cable company antenna was on the north tower. Mine is on the Empire State building. So..I get my TV on. By this time, one tower was gone, only I didnt know it. So..I was telling her what I was seeing..then asked her the most stupid question anyone can ask. Keep in mind, I have see those towers, live...many times. The NYC news also often shows different shots of the city as they go to break..so add a few more hundred times seen on TV. I said to my friend..um..arent there 2 towers? lol She must have thought I flipped...but, I think I had brain freeze. She says..watta ya talking about..you know there are two. I said..there is only one. She said, its probably behind the other one. By this time, my brain unfroze and i said..arent they staggered? One cant hide the other? There is only one. I had no idea, the other one was already a crumbled mess.. Of course, soon after, they had to show it coming down, so I told her it was gone (in NY, we saw those buildings fall almost nightly..for almost a year, over and over and over, every night on the news).

I was worried about my daughter in laws father..who I knew worked down there..but I didnt know which building. Turned out..he worked in one of those buildings with the odd shaped tops..that are closer to the water. This poor man saw everything, including the jumpers. He was a mess for months. Of course, the city was on lock down..so nobody could even go in and get him. I told my daughter in law, if they could reach him, and he could walk over the bridge, my husband would go get him..since he works a half hour away. He managed to walk with his group of friends..to midtown (thats one hell of a walk) and there, they managed to find a taxi, who was willing to drive them to their cars..which were an hour north, at the train station. When they got out of the taxi..they all emptied their wallets and gave the driver everything they had. It was months later, he was willing to tell us what happened. I wouldnt even ask him, prior to that.

I later found out my niece lost her husband. He worked for Cantor Fitzgerald..I believe that first plane went smack into the floors they occupy. Such a shame.

Let me tell ya..the people in this state..or at least around me..were scared chitless for a long time. The worst I got of it was..my TV worked, but since I never turned on the computer, I didnt know that was knocked out. I dont know if you have ever heard of Indian Point, the nuke plant that some politicians (including Hillary) want to shut down, since its in a highly populated area and NYC is in its 50 mile radius. Well, I am in their 10 mile radius. One of the planes, rode along the Hudson river..and flew right on top of that place. That plane flew less than 10 miles away from me. Had they decided to hit that nuke plant instead, we would have all kissed our asses goodbye. After 911, there were increased helicopter patrols, I live in the flight path of a military base..there were more of those window rattling planes passing. Every sound..every rattle, made you jump. It was a scary time.

About 6 months later, one of my granddaughters was in Columbia Presbyterian hospital for about 2 weeks. Thats way on the other end..uptown, near the George Washington bridge. I was there every night. I never took such close notice of things in the city before...especially the planes. The airport is not far from there and the planes are so low, you can practically see the people in the windows. No wonder nobody thought anything about a low flying plane before it hit.

I didnt do any crying, like just me did..but I lived with this surreal feeling for a very long time...and always edgy. Very scary times.

I was up driving around dropping off legal work before getting the kids off to school and turned on the car radio at the moment that Bill Handel, KFI Los Angeles, announced that a plane hit the second tower. "Folks, this is no accident...America is under attack!"

When I got home I spoke to the kids, 16 and 13, about how they had to be brave and strong as we were now at war. Just before they got out of the car we heard on the radio that the first building totally collapsed and I lost it. I will never forget the stunned looks on their faces as they struggled to grasp the significance of it all.

A memorable day.

This might be a little off topic...but is it me? Do you ever feel like we are living in the twilight zone? Just the handful of people here talking and we all remember what happened like it was yesterday. Dont the politicians remember? How the hell do we now cater to this particular group of people? How do we allow this chit..to march on Washington..or whatever the hell it is they are doing today...ON THIS DAY??? When their people caused such devastation? Why are they letting this group..shove it up the wazoo of the American people, who suffered in heart and mind, that day? And..they wouldnt give a permit, to a group of American bikers who just wanted to ride thru? AMERICANS...ya know who we are..the ones who were born here and have paid taxes probably since birth! (But...hahaha..the bikers dont care..they know we still have a constitution....somewhere..and they went anyway.) I talked about that surreal feeling, in my other post...and now a days..with everything going on..and their caring of this animals over Americans is as surreal as it gets. Has everybody gone crazy?

Where are the politicians with minds like those who hauled the Japanese and even the Italians into concentration camps during WW2? Not that I think that was the right thing to do..but I can understand that..better than this. At least that showed concern for the AMERICAN people...ya know....us?

I will tell you one thing...I am glad I grew up in the late 50s, early 60s..when this country was great...and freaking normal. I know we had trying times back then. I remember those duck and cover drills and air raid drills (like those were gonna save us). I lived thru the cuban missile crisis, the death of a president, the vietnam war, etc. All..not such good things..but it wasnt this twilight zone insanity that we are living in now. What the hell has happened to our country?

UNITED 93 – A Movie For Remembering Today

UNITED 93 (2006) is a movie that holds a strange, moving place in American film history. It is a film that is not often shown on television (cable or non-cable channels) and a film that sadly, hasn’t been embraced by the film world as the modern Classic and testament that it is. Paul Greengrass, UNITED 93’s Director, encountered a lot of misguided and mis-directed resistance by the film industry itself in reaction to President Bush and America’s prosecution of the Iraq War and the Global War on Terrorism. Which is sad. Very sad. For this is a film that should be shown on many American television channels and be one of the top films downloaded on VOD each September.

I write that last sentence out of a sense of Wonder and Hope. Wonder in that UNITED 93 so incredibly captures the real-time events and actions of that crisp, sunny late summer morning. And the simplicity of how easy traveling was in the United States until 8:46 am on that day, as well as the complexity of how our world and the Flight #93 Passengers’ world became in the subsequent minutes afterward. As a fellow filmmaker, I am in awe Mr. Greengrass’ and his Production Crew’s work to make what happened on United Flight #93 as moving and real as they could. They got it right – in spades. From the film’s opening with the terrorists in their hotel room the night before to the crashing of the airliner, UNITED 93 is filmmaking at its best.

Hope comes to me in that UNITED 93 shows us the bravery of the amazing Passengers that morning and what they did which inspired the rest of us to get off the deck and as my fellow New Jerseyan, Todd Beamer, said to everyone – “Let’s Roll.” The film, using no well-known actors and some real on-the-ground participants, draws you in and makes its moments feel as vivid as if it was happening right before you.



While UNITED 93 was not nominated for Best Picture at that year’s Academy Awards, but Director Paul Greengrass was for Best Director. Not getting nominated to win the gold Oscar-statuette doesn’t tell us if this film was a great one. Standing the test of time and transporting its audience back to what happened that day at each viewing… is what makes UNITED 93 a great film and one which you (and your family, friends and co-workers) should see in the next day or so. Please take a couple of hours soon if you can to see this film and to help remember and honor those brave Passengers of UNITED 93.

Note: There is an excellent and poignant extra Special Feature called “United 93: The Families and the Film”” which documents how the filmmakers gained and worked with the support of the UNITED 93 Families. In this extra, many of the actors from the film meet the family members of those United Flight #93 passengers they portrayed on screen. Some of these family members’ stories about how they recovered from what happened and how they moved on are inspiring in themselves. Quite frankly, this featurette is among the best post-9/11 documentaries I’ve seen.
