I doubt he is stunned. None of us are, so why would he. The GOP are nothing more that the Rats foils for arguing their massive tax and spend programs. That is why the Rats didn't do very much to get the House back but pulled out all the stops to hold the Senate and WH. They found out in '10 that they really need a scapegoat for all the misery from their programs. Who better than the Crying loser Boner and his three stooges Canter, Ryan and that other forgettable "Young Gun" in the leadership.
