Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, (R–FL), Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, plans to ask Secretary of State Hillary Clinton why U.S. diplomatic security agents in Benghazi were not initially armed when the attacks on the embassy compound happened. The Congresswoman will address Secretary Clinton in a hearing to take place on Thursday.
“What Secretary Clinton has told us in another setting is that in most consulates and embassies, the Marines are not armed--only when there are classified documents,” Chairwoman Ros-Lehtinen told Breitbart News. “But as far as the security detail, I’m going to find out why security detail does not have arms, because how can you be a security person and not be provided arms? Everything about that operation raises so many red flags.”
It should be noted that a State Department report praised the capabilities of the diplomatic security detail in Benghazi a few months before the attack happened.
Breitbart News first reported on Tuesday that Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D–CA) said, “I have concerns about the defense put up by diplomatic security,” when asked about security personnel not firing a single shot in return when the Embassy compound was under attack.
Diplomatic security agents did not have their M4 submachine guns on them as the attacks in Benghazi happened. They needed to go to a separate building to get their weapons and tactical gear; however, only one of the agents was able to return to Ambassador Chris Stevens, testified Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Charlene Lamb on Capitol Hill to the House Oversight Committee in October.
“Gunfire was heard from multiple locations on the compound. One agent secured Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith, the information management officer, in the safe haven, “she said. “The other agents retrieved their M4 submachine guns and other tactical gear from Building B. When they attempted to return to the main building, they encountered armed attackers and doubled back to Building B,” Lamb added.
“If you’re in a security detail and you don’t have a firearm to protect, what kind of security is that? So I’m going to find out and I’m going to ask her—I’m going to ask Secretary Clinton when she appears before us on Thursday,” Ros-Lehtinen told Breitbart News.

I wonder if Clinton will refuse to answer any really embarrassing or revealing questions by citing executive privilege. Just how else can these people handle the situation? Tell the truth?
