FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- In the midst of a double-barreled re-election fight, Mitch McConnell is earning praise back home from some unlikely corners for brokering the deal that ended the partial government shutdown and averted a potential default on U.S. debt.
"He did yeoman's work making sure this thing got fixed," said Owensboro tobacco farmer Rod Kuegal, a Democrat.
Newspaper opinion pages that typically disagree with McConnell also give him positive marks. Among them: the Lexington Herald-Leader, which said McConnell "does deserve credit for what he does best — managing in the real, messy world of democratic government."
ZitatBy deciding to work with Democrats, McConnell became the latest Republican to show a willingness to risk the ire of tea partyers by making the pragmatic decision rather than the ideologically pure one. Earlier this week, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stopped fighting legal gay marriage in his state, angering parts of the GOP's conservative base but endearing him to others across the political spectrum.
LOL. The Lefties at AP are praising Mitch for acting like a Rat. That should go over really well in a KY, a closed Primary state....

Wow! That is 2 steps below Hamburger U.
During his time at the University of Louisville, McConnell served as the president of the student body for the College of Arts and Sciences. He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he was elected president of the Student Bar Association.

You say this like it matters. This asshat has NEVER had a private sector job. He has been some political functionary since before he left law school. That is why he is out of touch and going to lose reelection just like Grahamnesty.

Remind me again, what's the point of this article? to praise McC for getting happy democrats?
Yeah, that's it. McC has pleased a lot of Obama supporters by compromising. Everyone knows that "good" Republicans are supposed to compromise when the call for bipartisanship by the Dems is made.
"How they going to spin this turd?" Jon Stewart on the Obamacare roll-out

Okay.
The point is: Even Kentucky Democrats clearly recognize and readily accept the principled leadership of Mitch The Magnificent McConnell....noble statesman of the Bluegrass!
