The Washington Post is reporting that Washington, D.C., police have finished their investigation of David Gregory following his brandishing of a high-capacity ammunition magazine on Meet the Press. The case has been turned over to the District of Columbia’s prosecutorial authorities, who must now decide how aggressively to prosecute their strict gun control laws. So what happens next? Well, according to the Post:
The question of how to proceed now rests with the office of Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan, which oversees prosecutions of some low-level offenses. A spokesman for Nathan said the office would not comment until a decision was made.
The David Gregory investigation has been completed by police, and has been handed over to prosecutors, via WaPo:
The decision on whether anyone should be prosecuted after “Meet the Press” host David Gregory appeared to hold a high-capacity ammunition magazine on national television now belongs to the District’s Office of the Attorney General, authorities said Tuesday.
In an e-mail, a spokeswoman for D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said her department has “completed the investigation into this matter, and the case has been presented to the OAG for a determination of the prosecutorial merit of the case.” ….

Gregory’s televised actions mobilized gun rights advocates and others nationwide; thousands have signed a White House petition urging the NBC host’s arrest.
Many gun rights advocates pressed police to immediately arrest Gregory after he wielded the prop during a Dec. 23 interview with National Rifle Association chief executive Wayne LaPierre about the massacre in Newtown, Conn.
Those advocates argued that not charging Gregory would show D.C. police to be hypocritical in enforcing gun laws its chief believes are necessary to curtailing violence.
This case isn't going anywhere. This is just another case of some old white guy, Gregory, breaking the law and the local authority Irvin Nathan, another old white guy, letting him off the hook. If this was a black reporter, I am sure the handcuffs would already be on.
Where are Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson when you need them? This is the biggest case of racism I have ever seen.
They have to prosecute, if they don't it sets a precedent in court over the next person arrested for a hi-cap mag. Anyone with a good attorney could get off on the charge.
NBC’s David Gregory is off the hook for showing a high-capacity gun magazine on “Meet the Press” and will not be prosecuted, D.C.’s attorney general announced on Friday.
D.C. attorney general Irvin Nathan on Friday said he would decline to prosecute in the case involving the Sunday show host and any NBC staffers. In a letter to NBC’s attorney Lee Levine, Nathan wrote that after reviewing the matter, his office “has determined to exercise its prosecutorial discretion to decline to bring criminal charges against Mr. Gregory, who has no criminal record, or any other NBC employee based on the events associated” with the broadcast.
The office made its decision “despite the clarity of the violation of this important law, because under all of the circumstances here a prosecution would not promote public safety in the District of Columbia nor serve the best interests of the people of the District to whom this office owes its trust.”
Nathan noted that his office’s decision in this case was also influenced by “our recognition that the intent of the temporary possession and short display of the magazine was to promote the First Amendment purpose of informing an ongoing public debate about firearms policy in the United States.” http://www.politico.com/story/2013/01/no...gory-86079.html
