On the first day of medical school, the Dean gave us a speech. I only remember one part of it:
"Over the next four years, we will teach you a great many things. However, half of everything we teach you will be wrong. We don't know which half that is."
Once upon a time, Medicine WAS "settled science". That was in the Middle Ages when whaterver Galen or Hippocrates had written about a disease over a millenium and a half ago was taken as The Truth.
