Atheist activists aren’t the only ones looking to nix the Bible and references to God from President Barack Obama’s inauguration. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell also took aim at the holy book today, dismissing its purportedly heinous contents and urging the president not to include it in his Jan. 21 inaugural ceremony.
After discussing Pastor Louie Giglio’s recent decision to remove himself from Obama’s choice of benediction speakers, O’Donnell launched into a tirade against the Bible and its presence at the historical event. In addition to defending the gay rights movement against Giglio’s nearly-20-year-old sermon, the MSNBC host dismissed the Bible as an antiquated book that virtually nobody can agree with in its entirety. ------ On the subject of slavery, O’Donnell framed the Bible as a book that condoned the horror that Michelle Obama, as a descendent of slaves, would have been forced to endure:
“This time, as it was last time for the first time in history, the book will be held by a First Lady who is a descendent of slaves. But the holy book she will be holding does not contain one word of God condemning slavery. Not one word. ------ http://tinyurl.com/bjoulll
Lawrence O'Donnell is such a detestable excuse for a human being. The Swift Boat Vets just about drove him crazy during John Kerry's run for president and he has never recovered.
Part of the homosexual agenda is to turn people from Christianity: "The teaching that only male-female sexual activity within the bounds and constraints of marriage is the only acceptable form should be reason enough for any homosexual to denounce the Christian religion" Advocate, 1985.
Laws in the Old Testament applied to the Jews of that time. The new testament and the coming of Jesus was over eight hundred years later. We are not bound by the laws of the Old Testament and if Lawrence were to really know anything about the Bible, he would know that.
Given Obama's positions on a number of issues, especially abortion/infanticide, I am not sure I want him taking his oath on a Bible. It just seems somewhat blasphemous. He should swear on a Koran. It would be more appropriate.
