WINDBER, Pa. (AP) — A southwestern Pennsylvania hospital will stop delivering babies after March 31 because its obstetricians are either leaving or refocusing their practices, and because hospital officials believe they can't afford it based on projected reimbursements under looming federal health care reforms.
The Windber Medical Center, about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, is losing two obstetricians and two others are shifting their focus more to gynecology.
Hospital officials say the population of women of child-bearing age is dropping and that the number of births the hospital would be called upon to perform isn't enough for it to provide the service in the face of lower reimbursements under the federal Affordable Care Act.
The hospital delivered about 200 babies each year since restarting its obstetrics program in 2005.

My husband served in the military and I gave birth to our first child at a military hospital. Throughout my pregnancy I was warned repeatedly that unless an emergency arose my delivery would be overseen and managed by a midwife, not a pediatrician. I had a difficult delivery and the pediatrician was immediately brought in.
In obstetrics there is a move towards midwives. While that may not seem alarming to a lot of people I think it could be a dangerous trend. Pushing substandard care upon the population as the "new normal" is part of the "pair their fair share" mentality of socialism. Only the elite will have excellent healthcare.
Obama's daughters go to a wonderful private school. They will also have their pick of medical specialists for the entire lives.
Not so my children. We are not among the elite. They are being conditioned by society to accept this.
My maternal grandparents saved cash to pay for the best doctor and hospital they could afford when my mother was born. All of my paternal grandparents' children were born at home.
In the future home births may not be a "hippy dippy trend". They may be a economic necessity.
Orthodoxy SUCKS.

The problem is that they will see the consequences of Obamacare and believe the liars who will blame everyone but Obama.
We're dealing with a boatload of people who just don't care what Obama does.
