CBS News 20 minutes ago BREAKING NEWS: SecDef Panetta tells CBS News Correspondent Cami McCormick he has just signed the order for deploying Patriot missiles to Turkey.
CBS News has learned Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has signed the order to send two U.S. Patriot missile batteries to Turkey.
He delivered the news to CBS News correspondent Cami McCormick in an exclusive interview.
Panetta spokesman George Little says Panetta is also sending 400 members of the military to operate the missile batteries.
The deployment is part of a NATO effort to help build a shield to protect Turkey from chemical weapons attacks or any incoming missiles from its neighbor, Syria.
Under NATO agreement, the U.S., Germany and Netherlands will deploy the batteries and set them up inside of Turkey by the beginning of next year
"Patriots are effective as interceptors against chemical weapons," said NATO Secretary General Fogh Rasmussen told reporters earlier this month.
My brother is at least on the northern coast and works for GE. They are good at taking care of their people overseas.
I agree with you that it's time to bring our soldiers home and let the world deal with their own problems. I'm just surprised at the lack of antiwar protests over the last four years.
I think it was a Ron Silver quote. I don't remember exactly.
I remember hearing that two Democrats were talking about Clinton's first presidential victory. One of them mused about what Clinton would do about all of the military missiles, bombs, ordinance... the "bullets of war", if you will. Their mindset was one of disarmament.
The other Democrat replied, "Those are our bombs, now."
Most Democrats only use a fake hatred of war to beat up Republicans. They never beat up their own.
I don't remember a lot of protests over Clinton's intervention in the Bosnia, do you?

No I don't remember any protests during Clinton's wars.

Steph, are you joking? Look at who is President. For criminy sake this guy has killed American citizens without so much as a discouraging word from most of the Left. They simply are not going to criticize Obama whether because he's a Democrat, their guy, black, or because of "no enemies on the Left."
I was being sarcastic. I know the progs only were antiwar during Bush's presidency for political purposes. The lack of protests from Jan 20, 2009 until now is proof of that.
