New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg and New York Rep. Carolyn McCarthy said Tuesday that they have introduced companion bills to ban high-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
The proposal from the two Democrats is part of a broad set of gun controls President Obama has vowed to push for in his second term, following the shooting deaths of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., last month.
"It is clearer than ever that there is no place in our communities for military-style supersized magazines like those used inside Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Aurora, and in Tucson, and I will keep working to reinstate the ban on them," said Mr. Lautenberg.
His bill has attracted 16 Democratic co-sponsors, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, who is planning to roll out a ban on military-style, so-called assault weapons on Thursday. He first introduced the bill in 2011 after a deranged gunman killed six people and wounded 13 others, including former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, at a Tucson shopping center.
Ms. McCarthy, a Democrat from New York, called high-capacity magazines "the common thread in every mass shooting in recent history." Her husband was killed in a shooting spree on the Long Island Rail Road in 1993.
Lautenberg always dances on the graves of dead people.
"When is a better time? When is more security sought by the people?" Lautenberg asked. "There is not a more, in my view, opportune moment than when there's still a period of mourning coming from Colorado. Timing, it's said, is everything. And this is the time." July, 2012
Orthodoxy SUCKS.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson

If lautenburg is dancing he is trying to shake stuff out of his depends.
Hell, in New York Cuomo's cut it to 7 rounds. In his haste to trot out his anti-gun bona fides before Il Douche, he actually forgot to exempt peace officers from the seven rounds . It would be laughable but for the fact possession of a high capacity mag will now be a 'B' felony. That's a stretch up to 25 years, and it's mandatory incarceration . Cue up the music, "I Loathe New York". Wyoming, here I come.
Last Sunday I announced Operation Gun Rights. The reason I did it is because I know that senators and congressmen are being swamped with the "we must DO something" mantra of CNN, the New York Times, and other "news" sources. We must replace that message with an even stronger one. So, here's the call to action. This is what each of us must do right now. Take the pledge. It's very simple. I'm asking you to commit to contacting your two senators and your one representative in the house once a week for eight to 12 weeks. (If your reps are strongly anti-gun, I'll have advice for you in a minute.) Simple. Easy. Quick. Once a week. Three contacts. For eight to 12 weeks. The message is simple. 1. We won't stand for scapegoating. 2. No new gun laws. 3. Remove the phony "gun free" zones which enable killers to go unchecked. 4. Work with us or we will work to retire you. I've worked with a number of smart and experienced people on these "talking points," and I'm convinced that offering any suggestions to Congress is a recipe for losing. Some have asked me to supply sources of information to back up their counter-arguments to gun control. Honestly, I think that's a waste of time. I don't want to convince them we are right. I want to convince them we will hurt them politically if they vote the wrong way. That's the way Washington, DC, works. Bare knuckles and 2x4s.
