Imagine that a group of girls is going on a long camping trip, supervised by adult volunteers who are young men you barely know. Would you let your 15-year-old daughter go?
Nearly every parent, I think, would recognize the folly, even though the men might well be models of good behavior. Why should our common-sense response be any different if the 15-year-old is a boy and the possible, even if not-likely-to-be-acted-on, sexual attraction of the adult supervisors is homosexual rather than heterosexual?
Sadly, in the face of intense pressure from ideologues, the Boy Scouts of America are reportedly on the verge of abandoning their long-held policy against gay scout leaders. Among the many corporations facing petition campaigns from gay activists, Merck and UPS recently announced that their charitable foundations would no longer contribute to the Boy Scouts. ------ Under the policy change that the Scouts’ national board will consider next week, the churches, schools and civic groups that sponsor troops would each be free to adopt their own policies on gay leaders and scouts. ------ In 2000, the Boy Scouts won a big Supreme Court victory against state laws that bar discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. That victory rested heavily on the fact that the Boy Scouts taught that homosexual conduct was contrary to their values.
But if the national group abandons that teaching against homosexual conduct, it paves the way for activists to sue troops that adhere to the traditional policy and to threaten troop leaders with personal liability. ------ Among the virtues set forth in the Scout Law, a scout is trustworthy and brave. The leaders of the Boy Scouts will betray those virtues if they cave to pressure and abandon their national policy. The Boy Scouts deserve better.
ZitatConsider, for example, something as simple as how a camp staffer might explain the meaning of the scout oath to be “morally straight.” Or how leaders and scouts from a pro-gay troop might provocatively highlight their new position with scouts from other troops.
Under the new policy, in which the national organization “would not, under any circumstances, dictate a position” to troops, what is to stop that from happening?
The destruction of Christian values using children. Yes, it is depressing.
Because homosexuals can't reproduce naturally, they resort to recruiting children. Homosexuals can be heard chanting "TEN PERCENT IS NOT ENOUGH, RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT" in their homosexual parades. A group called the "Lesbian Avengers" prides itself on trying to recruit young girls. They print "WE RECRUIT" on their literature. Some other homosexuals aren't as overt about this, but rather try to infiltrate society and get into positions where they will have access to the malleable minds of young children (e.g., the clergy, teachers, Boy Scout leaders, etc.) (8). See the DC Lesbian Avengers web page, and DC Lesbian Avengers Press Release, where they threaten to recruit little boys and girls. Also, see AFA Action Alert.

Bad move. Most boys lose interest after cub scouting (at least mine did). He didnt want to participate in boy scouting. As a parent, with the chance of their being gay leaders, it wouldnt have been his choice, it would have been mine.
I am a person who believes live and let live. Gays dont bother me, in most situations. They do in this one.
Leadership matters. In our family we learned the hard way that no one will protect and teach our children as well as we do. My son made the decision to quit scouts after nine years because the men in charge had squishy morals and no spines. He was so very disillusioned.
Orthodoxy SUCKS.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson

My church already has something similar: Royal Rangers My son went through the program from age 5 through 12 many years ago. The church that I attend now has just started the Expedition Rangers program for the older boys through HS+, sort of like BSA Explorers program. I still volunteer to help the Royal Rangers with woodworking projects from time to time.
My dad was a BSA Scoutmaster for a number of years in the 50s and 60s. I made it to BSA Life Scout, dropped out (for "coolness" reasons) before I made Eagle. Those years in BSA were fantastic for me, I still use skills that I picked up in BSA as a small boy. That is why it saddens me to see BSA go down this road.
