A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be “senior operational leaders” of al-Qaida or “an associated force” -- even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson
As in Holder’s speech, the confidential memo lays out a three-part test that would make targeted killings of American lawful: In addition to the suspect being an imminent threat, capture of the target must be “infeasible, and the strike must be conducted according to “law of war principles.” But the memo elaborates on some of these factors in ways that go beyond what the attorney general said publicly. For example, it states that U.S. officials may consider whether an attempted capture of a suspect would pose an “undue risk” to U.S. personnel involved in such an operation. If so, U.S. officials could determine that the capture operation of the targeted American would not be feasible, making it lawful for the U.S. government to order a killing instead, the memo concludes.
I'm sure it's just for the safety of the government. I feel so much better knowing that the lives of U.S. personnel are held at a higher value than the life of an American citizen.
Orthodoxy SUCKS.

.....if they are believed to be.....is the most disturbing part of this. Who gets to believe? Believe what? Even if there is 'no' intelligence indicating, etc. This thing can mushroom into going after any citizen who dissents with the regime and all they have to do is say, 'Well I believed etc." before killing the dissenters.
Why do I feel like a Jew living in Nazi Germany?

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House is declining to explain its criteria for directing drone attacks against American citizens working abroad with terrorists.
A newly disclosed Justice Department memo says the administration doesn't need evidence of a pending attack. The document says only that the target must be involved in ongoing plotting against the United States.
White House spokesman Jay Carney wouldn't discuss the memo in detail. He said President Barack Obama takes seriously his responsibility to protect the United States and its citizens. Carney said drone strikes are legal and that great care is taken to avoid the loss of innocent lives.
The problem here is this fake anchor baby stuff, the terrorist killed was born here to foreign parents. He was not an amercan. But the democrats cannot say that, because of the fake anchor baby. There is no law passed by congress that makes a child of a foreign parents an automatic citizen. As mark levin said, the ideal that a foreign person can create a citizen by their action is stupid.

True. But, they seem to handle cognitive dissonance quite well. It's a pathological kind of thing.
