Turkish press is reporting that Central Intelligence Agents seized Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law and brought him to the United States, after he was deported to Jordan.
Agence France-Presse, citing Turkey media reports, says Abu Ghaith — bin Laden’s son-in-law and a former al Qaeda spokesman — was grabbed at a luxury hotel in Ankara last month after a tip from CIA agents. Local police then held him at the hotel, over the objections of U.S. authorities, who requested that he be immediately extradited to America, AFP reports.
Turkish officials — at the same time Secretary of State John Kerry is due to visit Ankara — then sent him to Jordan for eventual return to Kuwait, but CIA officials interceded and grabbed him on March 1, AFP reports.
The United States seeks to question Mr. Ghaith about his role in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, AFP reports.
Officials with the U.S. Embassy in Ankara only said: “We’re aware of the reports,” AFP said.
