It reminds me of the school lunch program.

I have come to accept that my taxes go to help pay for the lunchtime nutrition of children who live in disadvantaged homes.

But the program has changed from one of charity to one of entitlement.

Schools now are offering breakfast and this at a reduced price.

If parents cannot afford to feed their children pancakes which cost about ten cents each, how are they able to pay for anything in the lives of their children?

I know of churches that fill in the gap in the summer. They are worried about the nutrition of children and they construct a "meals on wheels" program that takes lunch to children in the summer months. Their concern is that these children will not eat properly when school is not in session. The work that these churches do is noble because it is private charity filling the needs in their community.

My parents had five children. They fed us never once thinking that this was not their responsibility or that it was a difficulty . Now in my state if you have three or more children your family automatically gets reduced lunch because the state believes that it is a necessity. There is no means testing to determine if this is true or not. It has morphed into an accepted right.

In the future the schools will remain open year round because of remedial learning that all students will need to do. The bonus will be the summer lunch program.

Mark Steyn is right. We are doomed as a people if we cannot manage to offer enough peanut butter and jelly to feed our own children without the assistance of the state.
