At CPAC, McConnell Embraces Rand

Mitch McConnell, the leader of the GOP minority in the Senate, struck an upbeat tone in his Friday morning address to the conservative activists gathered at CPAC. “Friends, this is a moment of renewal. I truly believe it,” he said. In this era of new beginning, McConnell is seeking his sixth Senate term next year, and the 71-year-old conservative Republican is embracing his much younger Kentuckian, Rand Paul.

“More than ever, we need the kind of constitutional conservatives we’ve got in the Senate who’ve been really bringing the fight to the left,” McConnell said to loud cheers. “And I’m going to mention my Kentucky colleague Rand Paul as an example of that. He’s a perfect example of what I’m talking about. He’s a warrior, and we need more warriors.”

McConnell made sure to name-drop Paul several times for the crowd that received the junior Kentucky senator so well yesterday. He praised Paul, along with Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan, as potential GOP presidential candidates in 2016. McConnell also lent his approval for Paul’s filibuster over drone policies.

“Last week, Rand reminded the world that politics isn’t just about tactics,” McConnell said. “Actually, it isn’t just about ideas, either. It’s about standing up for your values and your principles. It’s about courage.”

He has no choice. The young whipper-snapper just called out the old geezer and the entire party as out of touch and running out of time. He has to embrace Rand, Cruz and Rubio and make it look like he wants the party to be reinvigorated with energy and new direction before he torpedoes everything in committee.

That was the point of the filibuster. While Rand was speaking on the floor he answered Senator Durbin specifically when he said that offering to hold a hearing will never get Paul's questions answered when Paul is not a member of that committee.

It's heartening to me to see these young up and coming breaths of fresh air coming into the Republic Party. Rand, Rubio and Paul.

Although, they are older than I thought. Rubio is young but Rand Paul turned 50 this year and Paul is older than he looks as well.

I disagree. There are some old tired and worthless Senators who seem to be invigorated or at the very least, see that they are on the losing end of the argument as of late. Cornyn of all people is backing Cruz on all sorts of issues and is becoming a Conservative again and McConnell is said to have backed Paul's filibuster behind the scenes. Dingy Harry and his filthy buddies were going to do everything they could to stop Rand and Mitch stood up to them and threatened all sorts of hell if they did.
