WHEN Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina announced on Monday that she would name Representative Tim Scott to the Senate, it seemed like another milestone for African-Americans. Mr. Scott will complete the term of Senator Jim DeMint, who is leaving to run Heritage Foundation. He will be the first black senator from the South since Reconstruction; the first black Republican senator since 1979, when Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts retired; and, indeed, only the seventh African-American ever to serve in the chamber.
But this “first black” rhetoric tends to interpret African-American political successes — including that of President Obama — as part of a morality play that dramatizes “how far we have come.” It obscures the fact that modern black Republicans have been more tokens than signs of progress.
The trope of the black conservative has retained a man-bites-dog newsworthiness that is long past its shelf life. Clichés about fallen barriers are increasingly meaningless; symbols don’t make for coherent policies. Republicans will not gain significant black support unless they take policy positions that advance black interests. No number of Tim Scotts — or other cynical tokens — will change that.
At times like this I often wish that we could all randomly tone our skin in various hues for a few weeks just to illustrate this ongoing absurdity of focusing on skin color!
It would be nice of the GOP had the stones to stand up to the Leftists and call them out for deriding them for being a lily white old guy party, but when a minority is advanced to a prominent roll, they deride them some more. This is just wishful thinking because the GOP will just cower in the corner like they do and let Scott twist in the wind.
They don't even believe Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech where a man gets judged by the content of his character, not the color of his skin.
The world according to the Left is plantation politics NOT the Right.
Let every man rise according to his abilities and stop the pulling those who achieve back!
The race-bating from the left is so beyond ridiculous these days, you'd think even the morons would tire of it. Can't THEY see that this is tearing this country apart?

Yes, they "see it" and "know it." Those directing the destruction "want it" because they want the divisiveness as part of their plan, any division is "good division" for them. The ignorant followers "want it" because they see it as a form of "revenge" against their perceived "enemies."
Yes, and it continues to work very well for them even as we all know what they're doing. Republicans are so beaten down they are pretty much not a threat to the left's agendas. They rise up every now and then, but given a few well placed slurs hurled at them and they retreat back to their well-appointed bunkers.

All true, no one wants to point out, no blacks belonged to the pressman union, and the new york slims had colored bathrooms, and may still have them. I am sure the management has its own facilities.
