Zitat (Reuters) - Talks to avoid a fiscal crisis appeared to stall on Wednesday as President Barack Obama accused Republicans of digging in their heels due to a personal grudge against him, while a top Republican called the president "irrational."
As the clock ticks toward a year-end deadline, Obama and House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, are trying to reach a deal to avert harsh tax hikes and spending cuts that could trigger a recession.
Obama said he was puzzled over what was holding up the talks and told Republicans to stop worrying about scoring "a point against the president" or forcing him into concessions "just for the heck of it."
"It is very hard for them to say yes to me," he told a news conference in the White House. "At some point, you know, they've got to take me out of it."
The rise in tensions threatens to unravel significant progress made over the last week in the so-called fiscal cliff talks.
Boehner and Obama have each offered substantial concessions that have made a deal look within reach. Obama has agreed to cuts in benefits for seniors, while Boehner has conceded to Obama's demand that taxes rise for the richest Americans.
I think the socialists want 2 things out of this "fiscal cliff" issue. They want the Pubs to be positioned to be the ones held responsible for any down turn in the economy and they want more taxes collected, especially from the rich, so govt can grow. Boehner seems to have positioned the Pubs well offering an increase on millionaires and locking in the rates for everyone else. I suspect that the socialists will refuse to vote on this and IF Boehner doesn't back down we will see taxes go up on everyone.
At that point it will be up to the Pubs to go "Ann Coulter" on the socialists and call them liars when ever they try and blame the economic downturn on the Pubs.
Who knows maybe the country will wake up in 2014 and put the Pubs in control of the Senate. Right now I'm not really optimistic.
Roughly 50% of the country is supported by other less than 50%, and in greater luxury and less want than in any other time since the beginning of humanity. They're well inculcated in the means of maintaining that status quo, and feel no guilt whatsoever about taking what someone else earned. They're probably not real motivated to "wake up".

Dead on. Even if we go over the cliff, not one welfare queen will miss a single payment. All the so called cuts are in defense.
