I'm done.

I may never create another business and hire another person due to the insanity of our government and its policy of destroying my incentives to do so (despite having several buildable ideas that I could turn into businesses right now) but I have a very long memory, and it's near-photographic.

This much I promise -- there are two school districts that have, as of this morning, had their diplomas turned into toilet paper. The same applies to any employee of said schools and the entire school board -- if you ever want anything from me, as a customer or as an employee you will be shown the door.

All of them from this day forward, until and unless they make these situations right and do so in public, with apologies.

I do. First, of all, chemicals in chem lab are carefully selected for safety and students in chemistry class are/should be well-supervised. They don't have access to things that could be seriously dangerous, as a general rule, and the point of the lab was not to stifle curiosity. (I'm guessing - I haven't taught in some years, but stifling of curiosity was usually done in English or history classes - not science).

Some response is called for, but not expulsion for pete's sake.

This, despite admitting in print that there was no "mens rea" and that is a requirement to charge someone with a crime.

This had nothing to do with the school "Chem lab". This had to do with "household chemicals" mixed up in a plastic water bottle. High school chemistry labs do not use "household chemicals" and plastic water bottles. This was goofing off with stuff from home. When they say, "Kids, don't try this at home!", they mean this kind of prank.

The term "a science project gone bad" seems to have been used in the same context as accidentally leaving a half-eaten brown bag lunch in the school locker over Spring Break or conducting the "science project" to see what happens when a 8 ounce bottle filled with rubbing alcohol meets a Zippo lighter. This was not something that happened in the school Chemistry Lab a part of a school activity.

In regards to the bottle, when it comes to a bad combination of chemical thrown together in ignorance, "8 ounces" is not "tiny". In the chemical world, "8 ounces" can be quite a lot.

Then the teacher, who failed to explain to their chemistry students basic science safety, should be fired and the principal, who hired the teacher, should be fired for making a bad choice.

A generation ago, this would have been chalked up to a lesson learned and moved on.
It's bad for child development for being so anal about things.

Law enforcement is constantly in hospital Emergency Rooms but the Hospital Administrator has absolutely no authority over what they do or how they do it. Likewise, the "school" has no authority over "law enforcement".

Regardless, only a Prosecutor can "charge her with a felony". All the Principal or the School Board can do is to file a complaint.

The school cannot "charge her with felony" any more than the County Prosecutor can give her an "F" in Chemistry.

To me the single biggest loss that our society has experienced, is good judgment. It is a non-partisan and non-political philosophy criticism.

I only took chemistry in high school. I don't remember an incident that happened during my class or hearing of any other.

I do remember the chemistry teacher talking about all of the mischief he had gotten into when he was in taking chemistry at school. He didn't say that he was prosecuted. He didn't say he was even reprimanded.

The world has changed.

How much mischief did kids get into in the past that were dealt with by the schools, the parents or the neighbors and law enforcement never entered the picture? A lot.
