Russian president Vladimir Putin, a former KGB agent, has given up on Russia’s joining the international Open Government Partnership (OGP), which was launched in Sept. 2011. Russia was supposed to join the OGP along with the founder U.S. and U.K. this year. Opting out gives foreign investors another reason to doubt Russia’s good intentions.
A spokesman for Putin, Dmitry Peskov, told business daily “Kommersant” this weekend that it disagreed with the terms of admission to the partnership, but did not offer specific details.
The OGP is a global, voluntary effort to make governments better. On its website, it says “We all want more transparent, effective and accountable governments — with institutions that empower citizens and are responsive to their aspirations. But this work is never easy.”
Apparently not. And this is why Putin wants nothing to do with it.
Either that, or he is just out to tick off the West.
"The Republican Party doesn't demonize prosperity. We celebrate success in our party," he said. "And let me be clear, if Republican leaders want to join this president in demonizing success and disparaging conservative values, then they're not going to be fit to be our nominee."
If Obama were to sign on with this OGP it'd be a joke. At least Putin refuses politely, not this year. Although adding the layers of bureaucratic paperwork certainly would appeal to him. And it'd be one more employment opportunity for growing the public sector.

ZitatThe Open Government Partnership formally launched on September 20, 2011, when the 8 founding governments (Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States) endorsed an Open Government Declaration, and announced their country action plans. Since September, OGP has welcomed the commitment of 47 additional governments to join the Partnership.
We invite you to stand with us, commit to the principles of open government, and deliver your action plans before the world.
The Open Government Partnership is a project of the Tides Foundation.
Lets see obama has started wars in three different counties and put Egypt in control of the Muslim brotherhood, I would say Putin is the smart one here.
I am not a republican I am a conservative, and supporter of the rule of law. And refuse to support any of Roves dopes.
Quote: FP123 wrote in post #3Looks like it is/was a joke from the onset, US was a founding member. I don't blame Russia for not joining an organization of the Tides Foundation.
Thank you.
