In October, the city council of this Central Texas town voted unanimously to purchase advanced electric meters, known as smart meters, for the city-owned electric utility. But some residents resisted, and the smart meter vote played a large role in last weekend’s recall of the city’s mayor and the electoral defeat of two council members.

Yup. Brady, Texas IS a nice town, and also happens to be the exact geographic center of the state. That town also seems to have the best BBQ in the entire state too--doesn't matter which BBQ joint you go to in Brady, they're all great.
The article doesn't say whether these meters just radio info to the utility so they can eliminate meter readers or if they do more. If they just are used for billing, who gives a crap. We have had them for decades here in PA and all they do is keep some guy from walking through your yard every two months.
