Shutdowns are for the little people.

We are also hearing that Members are starting to ask increasing administrative questions about the well being of their staff…and privately, asking questions if they can use their own salaraies to pay staff if there is a shutdown.

This is an interesting question…as Members ARE paid if there is a shutdown.

That’s because the 27th Amendment to the Constitution prohibits a “varying” of pay for House and Senate members…without an intervening House election.

During the ’95-’96 shutdowns, there was a voluntary suspension of pay for members.
