Bob Costas, whose lifetime of dedication to describing grown men playing children's games has made him holier than you and me, has deemed that the name Washington's NFL franchise has had since 1932 to be offensive and must be changed.
"It's an insult, a slur, no matter how benign the present day intent," Costas huffed. "It's fair to say that for a long time now, and certainly in 2013, no offense has been intended. But if you take a step back, isn't it clear to see how offense might legitimately be taken?"
Actually, Bob it was never meant as insult. Not today, and not in 1932. People and institutions don't take upon themselves labels they feel demean themselves, and it wasn't Philadelphians that named the 'Skins.
My late brother used to get a kick out of coming up with alternate sports teams names. The Dallas Cowboys became the Dallas Cow-thieves; The Philadelphia Eagles became the Philadelphia Vultures; etc.
What could the Washington team become? The Tyrants? The Bureaucrats?
You're a brave man. Go and break through the lines. And remember, while you're out there risking your life and limb through shot and shell, we'll be in be in here thinking what a sucker you are. ~Rufus T. Firefly
So in the "you can't escape this crap" category, I turn on sports radio before while I am getting my breakfast together. I get "treated" to hear a holier than thou @ss masquerading as a sports commentator blathering about this, he ends with something along the lines of "society will force them to do right...." Give me a freakin' break at this point.... lol

Those who use sports as a springboard to political commentary are almost always the most ignorant of things like basic civics and history.
