They lost. They didn't back down.
Losing a fight can be admirable, backing down is just weak.
Wait!!! I missed that, they lost but didn't back down? Is that like driving "buzzed" but not drunk driving???
In this case I thought they voted themselves the loss. What channel did you have on?
It was a fight that had a snowballs chance in hell to win. They tried and tried hard, but lost because they were never, never going to win over progressives regarding attaching ACA

I want to focus on that statement for a moment.
Say what you want about our opponents - but the Statists (particularly those in the democrat party) are ALWAYS united. Ask yourself:
Go all the way back to the 80s - how was it that when democrats were a minority in the Senate, they were able to block the nomination of Robert Bork?
And there have been countless examples since then - of blocking conservative nominations they (or their base) didn't like.
I'll answer the question for you. The way they were able to DO it was because they are UNITED. NOT ONE DEMOCRAT EVER LEAVES THE DEMOCRAT PLANTATION.
Think of what 'could have been" - what "might have been" - what "SHOULD HAVE BEEN", if only ----
--- if only the republicans had been united? If the McCLowns, the Corkers, the Grahams, the Ayottes, and all the rest - - - had been united in opposing Zero, his regime - and the democrats.
But NO!!! They chose, rather, to go after the few conservatives that wanted to resist.
The GOPe DESERVES all the scorn - all the vitriol - TIMES TEN - that it is getting.
They are WORSE than dems - (at least the dems make no bones about wanting to destroy the country.)
You're a brave man. Go and break through the lines. And remember, while you're out there risking your life and limb through shot and shell, we'll be in be in here thinking what a sucker you are. ~Rufus T. Firefly
I agree. The democrats are a team..united as one. The republicans are too busy fighting each other..and this is why they get nowhere. After all...we have Rinos...do they have Dinos? No..they dont, because they all stick together.
This obamacare was pushed thru with no republican votes. More than once (since then), you heard republicans say they would get rid of it...did they? Even the supreme court didnt get rid of it. There was absolutely NO reason and NO deadline for them to back down. The govt had the money to pay their bills. By backing down, the republicans have no lost the support of their own people..those who supported THEM. Now..they dont have support from anyone.
And as far as people who voted and who didnt vote..it doesnt much matter. If anybody thinks Obama won this last election without voter fraud, then they are really in lalaland. I dont blame people for not voting...since more often than not..their vote doesnt even count. Not to mention that he shouldnt have run the first time..nobody even bothered to vet him. Where is his birth certificate? Why didnt he had to answer to the taking apart of the piece of garbage they put out there? Oh and for those who are counting the days until he is out..I read a few things that the "first ape" wants to run. And let me tell you..if she does and she wins..I am OUT of this country. This is NOT the America my grandparents suffered to come to...nor the one I was born into.

They supported each other in their surrender by giving Boehner a standing O. They fought hard, they just didn't win. People put too much emphasis on winning anyway, right? These guys gave themselves a standing O. They were pretty impressed by their effort.

I share the same feelings Just Ducky. I wish there was somewhere we could go that was unpolluted by this socialist tidal wave.
The bureaucracy: the new fourth branch of government. The bureaucracy is permanent, unaccountable, unelected and choking us like a weed. The bureaucrat exists, generating nothing of value, using perceived problems to justify his existence.
I hope they give themselves a standing O when they are on the outside looking in because some democrat took their job.
There are not two major parties in the country anymore..there is one. And the party that conservatives decided to hook on to, doesnt seem to be working out for them. They should find another party.
I am just thankful that I was born and grew up in a time that this country WAS really great. Where you were proud to be an American...home of the FREE..land of the BRAVE. I am an original baby boomer. I was born 10 months after the end of WWII. My grandkids will never have anything to compare this to. This country and life has changed so much since I was a kid.
Ya know..I dont discuss politics much with my 2 daughters. I do occasionally with my son. My daughter made a comment a couple of months ago..that made me think..geeze..she is actually paying attention. They are going on a disney cruise next month, to the bahamas. It was suggested they get passports (which is very expensive for a family of 5, it seems). However, I believe they could have gotten away with just their birth certificate (holy crap..would you believe they ALL have one!!). She said to me, they opted to get the passports because...ya never know when we might need them. lol I dont think she meant more vacations, either.
I think people are really looking or thinking about their options. As you know, I do genealogy. (Italian 100% as is my husband). Using groups and forums for this, a lot of people of Italian decent are applying for duel citizenship...but not everyone is eligible. It depends on the time of your immigrating ancestors naturalization...because thats when they renounce Italy. If only one grandparent was NOT naturalized before your birth..you can apply. I cannot apply..since my grandparents on my mothers side were naturalized before my birth..and so was my father. (He was born in Sicily). My husband cant either..as both of his sides were naturalized before his birth. Not that italy is any better..and I have absolutely no desire to even go there..but people are doing this.
