More proof - if any is needed - of the broken status of American politics:
Allen Grayson is IN Congress
Allen West is not.
You're a brave man. Go and break through the lines. And remember, while you're out there risking your life and limb through shot and shell, we'll be in be in here thinking what a sucker you are. ~Rufus T. Firefly
It's the American people more than the politics. We've been overrun by fools idiots and freeloading lying LIV so any low life loser has a better chance than a man/woman with integrity.

A distinction without a difference.
The American people ARE politics.
A familiar quote that bears repeating:
"Well Doctor, what have we got?"
"A Republic madam, if you can keep it." ~B. Franklin

Let's say I could afford to go out and buy a new car.
I buy the car, and then expect to drive it for years and years and years. It is after all new, and it's cost me at least a couple of tens of thousands of dollars. I'll fill it up with gas when it needs it, of course (equivalent of voting in our "republic").
But I'm not going to do any other maintenance. I'm not going to change the oil. I'm not going to replace worn out tires - or, if I do, I'll buy retreads.
I'm going to ignore the "check engine" light when it comes on, and any other warning lights that might appear. But what about state inspections, you ask? Well, I'm a good "citizen", so I'll do just enough to get by.
Would you expect me to be able to drive my car for very long? Probably not.
That was the essence or Franklin's response to the woman: The Republic he had given her (and us) required maintenance - way more than just voting every couple of years.
It required a free and independent press to keep an eye on everyone - friend and foe. Do we have that? For the most part, no.
It required an involved and educated populace? Does that exist? No.
It required a system of "checks and balances" in government? Do we have that? No. What we HAVE is a UNITED government lording over "we, the people."
Today we focus on Zero, as well we should. He's a tyrant - the kind that the Founders feared and warned us against.
But the problems predate him by a long shot.
And just like that car that has been neglected for so long, we may find our republic is just a junk heap that is broken down at the side of the road.
