The rape comments really did do a whole lot of damage to the other candidates in close races. It was enough to get the women's vote out and turn the election in several key close races including the presidency. It was a gift to the dems and they used it to get out the vote.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Just as Mitt Romney and other Republicans had cut into the Democrats' advantage with female voters, a tea party-backed Senate candidate's awkward remark — that if rape leads to pregnancy it's "something God intended" — has propelled the emotional issue of abortion back to the political forefront. It's put GOP candidates in tight races, from the presidential candidate on down, on the defensive.

Divisive social issues are hardly what most GOP candidates want to be discussing in the few days remaining until elections largely hinging on jobs and the economy. Almost immediately after Richard Mourdock's comment, Republican candidates distanced themselves from the Indiana state treasurer — though by varying degrees.

The Romney campaign said Wednesday that the presidential nominee disagreed with Mourdock but stood by his endorsement of the Senate candidate. There were no plans to drop a Romney testimonial ad for Mourdock that began airing in Indiana on Monday.

Which only leads back to my original point: The comments were taken out of context by the media with the deliberate intent to do damage.

I live in Indiana, and I voted for and supported Mourdock. He's a great guy, and he is most definitely NOT a loon. He let the media trip him up. He never at any point meant that rape was something God intended, he clarified that many times which the media IGNORED. The media interpreted his comment the way THEY wanted to, put it out there that he said rape was God's intended method of procreation or some such nonsense to that effect, and ignorant voters believed THEM over Mourdock's repeated clarifications. If you want to believe the media's twisted spin over Mourdock's repeated clarifications, then you let yourself be swayed by a leftist media. You're just another voter who let's the media interpret for you what a candidate says and means.

Mourdock believes life begins at conception and that God is the creator of life - that's it. PERIOD. The media inserted the rape question to trip him up which he unfortunately fell for. That was too bad, but he wasn't and isn't a loon. Its also too bad women fell for it, just like its also too bad many women believe its okay to kill their children just because they're not born yet, but I can't help that, they'll have to answer for that one themselves.

But Obama can promote the murder of children just because they are not yet born and make you pay for it, but hey, that's okay - he's not a loon - just Mourdock for having the audacity to believe they have the right to life regardless of the circumstances in which their conception occurred. What a mixed up evil world we live in.

His chief goal this election was to jump on the TEA Party demonization train instead of putting forward the core values it represents.

That in itself, says more about who Karl Rove is than what he is trying to push, and it ain't conservatism.

I understand what he believes and agree with him BUT we are in the minority. His lack of preparedness for the inevitable gotcha question bit him and other candidates in the ass. It just is the way it is. Politics is more than ideology. It's also strategy and tactics. We know that the media will crucify conservatives if they screw up. The candidates must be better able to deflect and articulate positions.

Now is the time to hash things out before 2014. This discussion is healthy. We know anyone with an R behind their name has at least one extra hurdle to overcome.
