BILL PLANTE, CBS NEWS SENIOR WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: We've gotten used to being called whiny lapdogs. I've heard it for 30 years. But this is not about a picture of Tiger Woods. This is about access to the president. And access to the president has been cut and pushed and curtailed over every administration I've covered.
And here's the nub of it, Howie: this administration has the tools to reach people on their own. They don't need us as much. And to the extent that they're able to do that, they're undercutting the First Amendment, which guarantees a free press through many voices. If they put out their own material, it's state-run media.
This is so true! Another article on here spells it out precisely. "Why take questions from the media when you can go on the view and tell it your way?" The Obama's go on Sixty Minutes, The View, and other news outlets that let them get out their message without any hard questions.
Can you imagine the liberal press not being conducive enouigh for the Obama administration's needs? I guess they really don't think this president can handle even the occasional tough question. I find the Bill Plant whining to be just desserts for accomodating this administration's punitive requests to the point that they are no longer needed. Now is not the time to have called "FOUL!", it was years ago when the trend began.
"When they came for the Jews I remained silent. I wasn't a Jew. And then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me"
isn't this the underlying spirit of BP's complaint?
. . And suddenly the world turned asymmetrical. There were no longer any battle fronts. It was every man for himself.
Perhaps when they cut coal gas etc. they feel they can more safely put out more of their own odorous gasses with impunity.
