Radio Host to Lead Armed March on DC July 4th 'To Put Gov't on Notice that We Won't be Intimidated'

Libertarian activist and radio host, Adam Kokesh plans to lead an armed march on Washington, D.C. this Independence Day.

Launched as a group on Facebook, the "Open Carry March on Washington" hopes to get 1,000 supporters to march into the nation's capital with loaded rifles.

The group plans to meet at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. From there, they will march across the Memorial Bridge into Washington, D.C. and continue down Independence Avenue.

While Virginia permits open carry, Washington, D.C. does not issue any permit/licenses to carry a firearm.

The Facebook page states:

"This is an act of civil disobedience, not a permitted event. We will march with rifles loaded & slung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny."

The event is said to be non-violent and states that if the group is met with physical resistance, they will turn back.

It turns out that this fellow, one Adam Kokesh, was indeed an Iraq veteran (a Marine) with a beef. It is impossible to know when he turned against the Iraq War, but his passion was not diminished when he was "busted" for bringing a pistol to the States when he rotated home.

Even then his reputation could have emerged relatively unscathed had he cooperated with the USMC officer tasked to investigate his case. Instead, he refused to cooperate and allegedly used the phrase "f*** you" when he addressed the officer. That was when things went sour.

Within a matter of weeks Kokesh was demoted from Sergeant to Lance Corporal and was stripped of an award he had received for his Iraq service. He was then given a "general discharge under honorable conditions," which was what his lawyer and the Marine legal beagles agreed to give him in lieu of a court-martial.

That sequence of events apparently convinced Kokesh to turn against "the establishment," as he obviously viewed it. From that point on, it seemed that he was determined to be his generation's answer to Lieutenant John Kerry, who, as we all remember, was at the forefront of the anti-Vietnam War crowd alongside Jane Fonda, William Ayers, and the like.

He has not quite reached that level of dissidence, however, but it's not for lack of trying. Fast-forward to 2010: it is announced that Mr. Adam Kokesh, a native of the Third Congressional District of New Mexico, has filed to run in the Republican primary for the congressional seat of Democrat Ben Ray. Kokesh was running as a Libertarian, which has some recognition in the Republican Party as a legitimate, if somewhat rogue, element.

And here's where the Kokesh case starts to get messy and, by so doing, contaminate the cause of both Ron Paul and the libertarian movement (not to be confused with the Libertarian Party).

I never saw such a change occur in a person as that which occurred in Adam Kokesh once he became an establishment candidate. He sported a haircut of respectable length and style, wore suits and ties and normal shoes, and generally conducted himself in a respectable manner.

Of course, that was a quid pro quo, as Paul had endorsed Kokesh's New Mexico candidacy. And he did it with his eyes wide open, as I personally told the congressman all about Kokesh, including the bit about the latter's demonstrating against the U.S. military during time of war and of his transgressions against the Uniform Code of Military Justice and his punishment....

I would be very, very careful of even being in the vicinity of Kokesh.

The man sounds like a nutcase! Maybe he brushed up against one of the Code Pink females and got contaminated.

I will be shocked if this isn't a setup by the anti-gun crowd and the government to get the stricter gun laws they lust after. If they get 1,000 people that show up,you know that at least 3 of them are going to be babbling idiots that should be locked away in a mental institution,and they ARE going to shoot somebody if challenged. Which is what the Obummer admin and the gun control nazi's have wet dreams about happening.

Ok,then he's not going to have a march at all because even a retard knows the DC police and feral LEO's are going to be there in droves,armed with M-4's and looking to shoot somebody that resists arrest.

Folks,the DC police HAVE to be there making arrests because the marchers will be committing what is a felony offense in DC that carries mandatory prison time/

Back when I was on FR in the late 90's I believe I was the first one to propose a July 4th Second Amendment March on DC,but *I* suggested empty holsters to symbolize how law-abiding citizens were being illegally disarmed by our government. Most of the people who responded called me a wuss or the equivalent and said the would organize bus loads of armed protestors to march. I wanted and stated I wanted no part of that. After all,if you are armed with loaded rifles and marching on DC,how can you claim to be a law-abiding citizen airing your grievances?
