NAACP Chair Emeritus: ‘Legitimate’ For IRS To Target ‘Admittedly Racist’ Tea Party: ‘Taliban Wing’ Of Politics
by Noah Rothman | 11:32 am, May 14th, 2013
Julian Bond, chairman emeritus of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, joined anchor Thomas Roberts on MSNBC on Tuesday where he said that he did not believe the federal government was complicit in any wrongdoing given the news that the Internal Revenue Service singled out conservative groups for added scrutiny. He said that it is right of the government to look into the Tea Party, which he called “overtly racist” and the “Taliban wing of American politics.” Bond made these comments after noting that his group was illegitimately targeted by the IRS in 2004.
Bond said that his group was singled out by the IRS in 2004 after he delivered a political speech critical of President George W. Bush. Though his organization was later cleared, Bond said that his group was “unfairly targeted.”
However, Bond said that there are no parallels between that case and the charge that the IRS devoted undue scrutiny to conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.
“I don’t think there’s a double standard at all,” Bond said. “I think it’s entirely legitimate to look at the tea party.”
“I mean, here are a group of people who are admittedly racist, who are overtly political, who tried as best they can to harm President [Barack] Obama in every way they can,” Bond continued.
“They are the Taliban wing of American politics and we all ought to be a little worried about them,” Bond asserted.
Quote: Justme wrote in post #2The Tea Part is overtly political. Ok, this guy is sharp as a bowling ball.
To the Left the Tea Party has become a straw man, a caricature.
To them it isn't at all what we think it is.
It's a cess pool of racism and bigotry, of all that is wrong with America. Just like Fox News.
And they won't listen to anyone who tries to explain the simple concept of limited government.
Oh and btw, bobj would like this thread
"The Republican Party doesn't demonize prosperity. We celebrate success in our party," he said. "And let me be clear, if Republican leaders want to join this president in demonizing success and disparaging conservative values, then they're not going to be fit to be our nominee."
It amazes me that people think the Tea Party is racist. It has a prejudice but it's not against skin color. It's against taxes!
In fact, they are so silly excited to get a black person involved, they just love it. It's racist in it's own way, the way they beg for people of any color to join. I guess I'm okay with that. I also would love to have people of any color, brown, dark brown, whatever to join. And people of white, lily white and peach colored too.
The party of the Confederacy, the KKK, Jim Crow Law, The Internment of hundreds of thousands of Americans based on ethnicity ( Japanese- FDR ) and the filibuster of the 64 Civil Rights act, says the GOP is racist.
Not only would he feel perfectly safe walking among us Tea Party Taliban, he would do it trying to provoking us along the way knowing he is free to do so without fear.
