Attainder is the act of punishing someone legislatively while circumventing due process.

The violated foundational principle is that only illegal to behavior should be punished, not simply being or belonging to a politically disfavored group.

That's why bills of attainder are banned by the U.S. Constitution and the constitutions of all 50 states.

Furthermore, of course the DOJ would take up the matter, as its charter requires it to represent the federal government in open court.
