I don't think that they care any longer. A mountain of email messages, faxes, and telephone calls are unlikely to stop them this time around. I don't believe enough of them any longer feel any responsibility or obligation to reflect the will of their constituents via their voting. That's one of the side-effects of the intense party line divide -- Rs aren't too worried that their voters will vote for a D in the next election, and vice versa for the Ds. Most of them that have been in office for any length of time feel confident that they have enough $$$ and power to survive primary challenges.
One of the side effects of voting party line and being partisan? I thought that was the prime reason they want partisans voting party line.
Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? (Ron Paul,2012)

I'm sure that they want/like that Pete. I meant "side effect" in the sense that it gives them a great deal of protection to do as they please, which is not what the voting public (well at least some small part of it) really wants. (The bulk of the voting public doesn't give a damn what they do.)

Too much of the public is distracted by what entertains them to pay attention to what their representatives are doing. I don't see how this will change in the future.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson

It will change by getting worse. The modern equivalent of "Bread and Circuses" has taken over with a vengeance!
Rubio has put his popularity amongst his colleagues in the Senate over the rights of the American people. I hope his career is damaged irreparably and that it never recovers.
This "amnesty bill" leaves the border wide open. Surely, Rubio knows that and he still pushes...I think his popularity has taken a bad turn with conservatives.

The last time I remember the political elite responding to voter pressure was when TARP first came up for a vote. TARP was soundly defeated. Then everyone was brought into a private meeting, and lo and behold TARP passed.

But his popularity is on the rise with establishment types and the Beltway money men. That will give him all the boosting he wants for a run in '16. Look how effective it was for McLame and Romney with clearing the Primary field. Once that is done, they will sell him as more Conservative than Reagan and if the base has any issues with that, it will be our fault Biden/Clinton will win in '16. It is all a scam and I am not interested in playing anymore. FU Rubio.
