FWIW - I heard Ted Cruz on Beck (radio) this morning. He talked about this petition which he didn't expect would result in abolishing the IRS but thought the more names the better ....so it would lead to some form of reform.

Well I guess reform is better than nothing. But IMHO it needs to be abolished. Institute a flat tax and send it packing.
America's hope is not the donkey or the elephant, but the Lamb.

Yes, a flat tax is everyone's dream but it will never happen ......too many issues to make it fair to everyone !!
I guess that's the point I don't get. Its the issues that make it unfair.
You're probably right that it will never happen, but honestly, its the issues that get in the way and make it complicated or unfair.
The only thing that is fair to everyone is the flat tax! Everyone pays 10% (or whatever % is determined) of what they earn and its fair for everyone!! Everyone pays, nobody gets a free ride, everybody has skin in the game. All the exemptions and tax credits, etc. etc. go poof so billionaires no longer weasel out ending up paying far less than anyone else. And since anyone who earns a paycheck now pays their part, no longer do we have a large segment of the population who pay nothing.
I guess I just don't get what's fair about 47% of the country paying nothing while mooching off the other 53% who have to support them.

Some people are self employed so they don't get to keep what they deposit to their bank account or the amount that is 1099ed to them. Therefore, it is only fair that they get to deduct their business expenses. That is just one example to illustrate the "fairness" in the system, we have, that most people don't realize. For the most part, the rich or business people pay their fair share and usually are very honest people, if that, gives you some comfort. The people that usually "cheat" are the ones that receive "cash" like "tip" people and the contractors that come and do work at your house whereby they have one price for cash and another price for a check or credit card.

It is a way to mine for active names and emails in the base. One does this kind of thing if they are thinking of running for higher office. It gives them a solid donation hit up list.

That will really please Sanguine !!
It pleases me. I won't mind getting hit up for cash from Cruz to run in '16. I'll have to retire my Santorum sweater vest.

I'm already on that list. I'm sure I'm a big disappointment, but they continue to send me the solicitations anyway.
