Princeton University Professor Dr. Cornel West appeared on the Tavis Smiley radio show on Thursday where he weighed in with his thoughts on how the media and lawmakers are responding to the tragic massacre of teachers and children in Newtown, Connecticut...

We can’t just shed tears for those on the vanilla side of town,” West said.” They are precious, but they are no less or more precious than our poor brothers and sisters on Indian reservations — who are killing each other — or be they black or brown or what have you.”

“But it’s a good thing that we now have a discussion on gun control. We need one on drone control. Not a peep, not a mumbling word when black folk get shot,” West added. “But now, Newtown, Connecticut, vanilla side — low and behold we got a major conversation. That’s wonderful. Each life is precious, but it just upsets me when we’re so deferential.”

It just boggles my mind how a moron can become a Professor--the so called smart people make it hard to take them serious on anything. Just cause somebody says you are educated don't make it so

It just isn't appropriate for him to think he's got a right to refer to "the vanilla side of town". Unless that is, he thinks it's also appropriate for whites to refer to "the chocolate side of town".

It's time for this race card to go away! to disappear! We don't want to hear it. I'm so sick of the tweaking that the Libs feel is necessary to teach us all how bad we are as a society. All races with any heart mourned that tragedy. Then to have some slimey Lib come along trying to teach us some fake lesson by pulling out his race card? That's just what he does! The Prof is always on TV. Sometimes you have to put the name with the face. I know when I see him on TV, I think "radical" and turn the station. Just call me a racist, I am numb to the accusation. Honestly, I don't listen to anything this "Prof" has to say nor Rev Sharpton or Jackson. They are all race baiters. They never offering solutions. They show NO LEADERSHIP. They only want face time for themselves. Sad and pathetic, all this guy's education is such a WASTE, especially to his race !!

I don't know how people will learn to STOP jumping when the racial dog whistle is blown. Not just those that use it as an attack, but those that feel they need to put armor up.

It shouldn't have to be like this anymore. Not only do we need to bury the race card, but we need to forget where we buried it and not put a marker over the grave.
