GOP Mystery Donor in Mass. Senate Race



A wealthy California vintner is trying to make a big splash in the Senate special election in faraway Massachusetts.

In the past two weeks, John Jordan has singlehandedly spent more than $1.2 million to help Republican candidate Gabriel Gomez in an uphill race against longtime Democratic Rep. Edward Markey.

The 41-year-old chief executive of the Jordan Vineyard and Winery has jumped into the race under the guise of a mysterious super PAC with a somewhat un-Republican name, Americans for Progressive Action. Until now, the group has kept the identity of it sole backer under wraps.

In an interview, Mr. Jordan says he was compelled to enter the race after he watched Mr. Gomez get hammered by Democratic attack ads, with little back up from outside Republican groups.

But his expenditures on Mr. Gomez’s behalf, which are expected to top $1.5 million, dwarf anything he has done before and make him an even larger contributor to the Gomez cause than the GOP’s own National Republican Senatorial Committee, which has put $900,000 into the Massachusetts race.

The money has gone to pay for a flurry of television ads and for a digital campaign to target likely Gomez voters and to nudge them to vote

True, he's milquetoast Frank.
Seems like the media should be touting his Hispanic heritage, the first Hispanic Senate candidate from Massachusetts and all that. Strange they seem to always miss the celebration and party for Republican Hispanics ...like Alberto Gonzales.

But didn't they champion the dog-faced Sonia Stotomayor? Oh my yes! wonderful!!! she broke all those glass ceilings.

There is no parity in the press.

I realize Gomez had to swing "liberal" but wasn't his Navy Seal career worth something .....to somebody ??

I guess, the "senate republicans" were too busy writing 1,200 pages of "Open the Flood Gates" (aka: More Hispanic votes for the Democrats) ....to even bother about getting another Hispanic Senator elected !!

You only have to look to the Immigaration Bill in the Senate .....to FIND all the Senate RINOs !!

What difference would one more make .........at least Gomez is a Hispanic !!

Between Kerry, Markey and Gomez it would be inaccurate to say there is no difference.

What's missing is the honest conservative candidate that will spark and ignite the base.
But here in MA we'll never get that candidate because the dems can vote in our primary and they water it down everytime.
