The attorney was making an attempt to open discussions on some sort of settlement for the employee who obviously had a beef with the Deen Family for not being fairly compensated or respected. The complaint spells it out.

You may call it "hush money" ......or you can call it a "shakedown" ....it doesn't matter !!

Being SUED is now a "normal cost" of doing business in this Country for Corporate America !!

Some "complaints" are covered by insurance and when an insurance company gets involved they immediately do an assessment strictly based on the cost to litigate. That means they enter negotiations by offering a settlement for the plaintiff to simply "go away" so they can avoid the higher price of legal fees and costs.

Paula Deen's mistake was not recognizing she had a lot at risk based solely on an "image" and not assessing what a blow to that image would cost her to defend in the public arena and in the court room was stupid as a "business woman".

She could have negotiated down what was originally being asked ......sadly she will now find out paying $1.25M would have been a BARGAIN !!
