Some pigs are more equal than other pigs.

Whites and Asians are at the bottom of the pecking order,blacks are at the top,and His and Her Panics are somewhere in-between. Mostly because a lot of them are white,and that reduces the standing of the whole bunch.

The problem with race relations in American society is that American society loves to focus on the race issue without ever daring to admit that races sometimes ….. Gasp! … The horror! ….. actually mix.

In the Old West, the child of the white fur trapper and his Indian wife was a "Half-breed". In the old TV show, "The Jeffersons", the daughter of the Black-White inter-racial couple neighbors was a "Zebra" ..... As George Jefferson would say, "I don't want no daughter-in-law who's a zebra!"

In American society, any term that describes a mixed-race offspring is considered a Politically Incorrect insult. So, a new "race" has been invented that includes everybody from the black-as-coal Celia Cruz, to lilly-white Fidel Castro and Pope Francis to a pure Mayan Indian from the Yucatan to any mix of White, Black and Indian that 500 years of History could produce. That "racial" label is then slapped on every Mexican, Dominican, Venezuelan, Argentinian, Cuban, Peruvian, etc., etc, in the United States.

The majority of Mexicans are not actually “White” and not actually "Indian" and they are not "Black" but they do speak Spanish. So, American society has resorted to the euphemism of using the word “Hispanic” to describe what Americans sometimes describe as “Brown” but what everybody in Latin America would describe as “Mestizo” which is a mixture of White with the native Indian population.

Thus, only in the United States of America, does having Spanish as the language you grew up with as a child put you in a separate “race”. That gives rise to the Latin American joke of the blond and blue-eyed, Spanish-speaking Argentinian with German-born parents who were members of the Hitler Youth who said that he never knew that he was not “White” until he came to the USA and the Americans told him so. That also gives rise to the ridiculous questions about whether the Pope, with two Italian parents born in Italy, is actually “White” since the Pope was born and raised in Argentina and speaks Spanish.

A Latin American would have no problem describing what Obama is. Obama is not “White” and Obama is not “Black”. Obama is a “Mulato” and, in certain countries in Latin America, there is nothing wrong with admitting that Blacks and Whites sometimes have children together. Not in the good, ole, USA though. In the United States, the person must be called either “Black” or “White” and using a term that actually describes an inter-racial mix is as Politically Incorrect as it gets.

From his looks, Ted Cruz seems to actually be a “White” (race description) Hispanic (ethnic group description) and, like many Cubans, his father could probably tell you which town or city in the provincrof Galicia or the province of Asturias in Spain his grandparents or great-grandparents came from. "White Hispanic" Fidel Castro’s father, for example, came from Lancara, Galicia, Spain. Fidel Castro is simply “Blanco” …. “White”.

The late Hugo Chavez seemed to have very little “White” in him and a Latin American would wonder if Hugo Chavez was pure “Indio” or “Indian”.

In Mexico today, approximately 30% of the population is pure ”Indio”, approximately 60% of the population is “Mestizo” and the remaining 10% of the population includes everybody elses including Whites, Blacks, etc.

In the 17th and 18th centuries the classifications in Spanish colonial America were quite exact and quite complicated. This, for example, is a classification list from 1774 by Andrés de Islas:

1. De Español e India, nace Mestizo (From white Spaniard and Indian, is born the Mestizo)
2. De Español y Mestiza, nace Castizo (From white Spaniard and Mestiza, is born the Castizo)
3. De Castizo y Española, nace Española (From Castizo and White, is born is White. …. The colonial Spaniards were pretty lenient without a “One Drop Rule)
4. De Español y Negra, nace Mulata (From white Spaniard and Black, is born the Mulato …. This is where Obama fits in.)
5. De Español y Mulata, nace Morisco (From white Spaniard and Mulata, is born the Morisco …. If Obama had married a White, his children would be Moriscos.)
6. De Español y Morisca, nace Albino
7. De Español y Albina, nace Torna atrás
8. De Indio y Negra, nace Lobo
9. De Indio y Mestiza, nace Coyote
10. De Lobo y Negra, nace Chino
11. De Chino e India, nace Cambujo
12. De Cambujo e India, nace Tente en el aire
13. De Tente en el aire y Mulata, nace Albarazado
14. De Albarazado e India, nace Barcino
15. De Barcino y Cambuja, nace Calpamulato

George Zimmerman, with a White father and a Mestizo mother would be a “Castizo”.

During the 18th Century, “Casta Paintings”, where these racial mixes would be illustrated, were popular in Spanish colonial America.

That "white Hispanic" thing is so funny to me because I watch a lot of baseball and almost all of the Hispanic guys are the darkest on the field. There are hardly any American Blacks playing the game anymore.

To follow up my previous post, here is how a Latin American would describe them.

Culturally, they are all “Hispanics” just like Jackie Robinson and Mickey Mantle were both “Norteamericanos”. Racially, they would break out as follows:

Liván Hernández, Cuban pitcher with the Miami Marlins during the 1997 World Series Championship: “Negro” … Black

Edgar Martinez, Puerto Rican former designated hitter with the Seattle Mariners: “Blanco” … White

A-Rod: “Mulato claro” …. A light mulato

Sammy Sosa: “Mulato oscuro” … A dark mulato.

Fernando Valenzuela, Mexican pitcher with the L.A. Dodgers: “Mestizo”
