You are right. Those who couldnt afford it or didnt want it..will still be showing up for free care...and now, there will be a whole lot more, better dressed people on those lines, because people who were able to afford it before, cant now.

When this all began, they kept pointing out places like the UK. Well..the UK folks arent PAYING for theirs..and the treatment there..is WAY inferior to ours. In the UK, they have choices. You take the freebie, or buy insurance, or pay out of pocket. The UK didnt force people to take expensive insurance they cant afford.

Our govt didnt want to fix healthcare. If they did, they would have not only done something for those who had none, they would have gone after these insurance companies..and the drug companies and looked into tort reform.

Up until around the early 80s..most plans were only for hospital stays and paid the dr who took care of you. You had to pay 20% of that. Your office visits, meds and even maternity, was paid out of pocket. And we all did it..because everything was reasonably priced.

In the early 80s, my kids were ages 9-15. I decided to switch from pediatrician, to family dr. We paid the visits cash. The visits..were $12. Yes, twelve freakin dollars a visit. I think by the time we got insurance that covered dr visits, that was up to 20...if you paid cash. I paid a $10 copay then. Those prices were very reasonable..even when you take into consideration how much less money you made.

Then these insurance companies went to hell with themselves..but ya see..they were being soaked by drs and hospitals. If you had no insurance..the price you paid was way, way lower, than what they charged insurance companies. Not only that...back when you paid out of pocket..you werent running to drs for a runny nose.

Now..the copays are triple or more. They stick everyone on these cholesterol meds, which require several blood tests, and or visits per year. And the drugs for this..are outrageously priced. I dont know the actual cost of what I take..what I do know, is my dr gave me a discount card, so my copay is only 30 dollars a month..without that card, who knows what it would be..and if she doesnt hand me another one when it expires..I am not taking this crap..which I dont want to take, in the first place.

I dont know how all of this is going to end up. What I do know is, now more people cant afford it and will opt for the fine. So, then what happens? FREE single payer, like the UK?

And forget the doctors. I have seen more drs on the net claiming they will retire or go into something else. They arent going to be forced to make way less money..when they paid a fortune to become doctors.

I feel for these doctors. They are just as upset as the rest of us.

Its too bad this is about healthcare, or the american people could just ban together and say NO. But, when it comes to your health, especially if you need to see the doctor frequently for some ailment, people cant just say no. They need to be covered. You wont get a lot of people who would commit to not buying it.

I wonder what these other countries think of us now. We had become the laughing stock over other reasons..they must be really enjoying the laugh now..when their inferior healthcare becomes better than ours.

Nothing at all..but, their might be a waiting period for them after they buy..if they visit a doctor or go into a hospital for that condition.

NY insurance companies have had to cover these people for years. I am not sure if there is that wait, and if there is, how long it is..but, I never heard anyone complain. My daughter has lupus..since she was 11, she is 40 now. She went from our insurance, to a cobra policy that we paid for her when she was 18, to a couple different insurances from jobs, to her husbands insurance. We never had a waiting period..she was never denied, nobody ever tried to drop her..and never paid more than anyone else.

I dont think its these pre-existing conditions, nor the coverage of 26 year olds under the parents. I think its all of the additions they are forcing you to take, that you dont need. Sure, most policies cover things that you wont use (thank God), but they werent making single men pay for maternity insurance or other things that a man cant possibly use. These things are whats driving up the costs.

I did. There are only a certain number of decades of a workaholic lifestyle and putting up with an entitlement mentality that anybody wants to tolerate. A lot of people talk about going the Atlas Shrugged route in their 50’s. We actually have the financial resources to do it.
