“We gotta watch what we say,” Gowdy told the audience. “We gotta stop saying stupid things. That’d be a good place to start.”
The Republican, who has been a stalwart of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, went on to discuss the damage Republicans have done by saying things that are inaccurate about minorities and noted the effect such comments have on the for rest of the party.
“I think actually Luis Gutierrez said it best. He’s not prone to giving advice on Republicans. … And he told me, ‘It is one thing if the voters don’t like you. It is something else if the voters think you don’t like them,’” Gowdy said. “And without naming names, if any of you want to go on Al Gore’s invention and Google it, Republicans have said some things that are just impossible to justify during the immigration debate. Has it been many? No. But it doesn’t take many. It just takes a couple and if you are waiting on the media to be fair, that’s not going to happen.”
I'd like to see some examples of the stupid things he is talking about. I wish Gowdy had been more specific, but I guess if they were truly dumb he wouldn't want to repeat them.
However, I sure hope he is not saying "close the damn border, already" is NOT one of the stupid things.
I do like Trey Gowdy very much. He's great.
“When the government fears the people there is liberty; When the people fear the government there is tyranny."
He has to mean dumb things like these to name two. Being carful would be very helpful
Rep. Don Young (R-AK) “My father had a ranch; we used to have 50-60 wetbacks to pick tomatoes,”.
And
Rep. S. King “For everyone who’s a valedictorian, there’s another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert,” he said. “Those people would be legalized with the same act.”
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson
"If people can’t trust not only the executive branch but also don’t trust Congress, and don’t trust federal judges, to make sure that we’re abiding by the Constitution with due process and rule of law, then we’re going to have some problems here." - Barack Obama, June 7, 2013
Quote: Cedric wrote in post #4Congressman Gowdy's advice implies that if Republicans are careful enough they can escape criticism.
He's dreaming.
The Democrats and the MSM have amply demonstrated that, if necessary, they are more than willing to make stuff up.
Example (and there are dozens daily):
“They were willing, the McConnell people onto the far right, were willing to destroy the country in order to destroy Obama,” (Chris) Matthews insisted. “Whereas, to succeed in a country he loved, F.W. de Klerk was willing to see it transformed to black rule so it could be done successfully so he could have his country have a better future.”
“The loss of Mandela and what his history is about and the key statement of why this has been so poisonous the last five years,” he concluded. “We have real people in this country with real power and status who have used that status of power to hurt the country so they could hurt the president.”
“That’s the most damming assessment I’ve heard and, I think, the truest,” Matthews lamented.
Question for Representative Gowdy: What were the "stupid things" said or done by any Republican which prompted Matthews' smear?
