Advocates of a far-reaching overhaul of the nation's immigration system are hoping to use their allies on the religious right to prod the Republican Party to embrace reform.
They aim to use a broad consensus among religious leaders and institutions to promote a rewrite of immigration laws as a moral imperative, mobilizing conservatives to pressure the Republican politicians they have long supported on the basis of other issues.
Their efforts come as the GOP is reassessing its position on immigration, including opposition to normalizing the status of immigrants who entered the country illegally.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson
CLOSE THE POROUS BORDER. Anything less is deflection.
Orthodoxy SUCKS.

There is a good reason the left is pushing so hard for "immigration reform", and it ain't because they think they will make good Americans. The left wants to destroy Americanism and is certainly not out to increase it.
I realize that most of you don't agree, but I feel differently than most of you on immigration. Our government has let over eleven million immigrants stay in the United States for many years now.
You can't blame them for wanting a clear path to citizenship. Thousands of the kids were born here, know no other life than the one they have here & can't contemplate living anywhere else. It's too late to send them back! I don't know the answer but it seems to me that we need to take some kind of action instead of letting it ride on & on.
Our government, democrats & republicans, has ceased to function with competent decisive actions. Immigration, the budget, nothing ever gets done. In the meantime, our immigrants are having more & more babies that will be put on the government dole. Most Mexicans are hard working people. Let them start earning their wages and start paying taxes like the rest of us.
Yes, Olivia, I do disagree. First, the number is not 11 million. It is much higher. Secondly, we don't send them home. We enforce existing laws and allow them to go home.

Do you realistic think they'll "go home" when over half of them were born here? It's too late to send them home because in their mind, they are at home. Our government is to blame & that includes George Bush. It's a tangles mess made by our own government and no laws will be enforced and they won't be going home.

That over half of them had been born here is totally made up. I doubt that those born here exceed 20 percent. And the total number of illegals is about 30 million. And that is based on a congressional study from a few years back. The 11 million is a lie and any politician that says that has no respect for you the citizen.
Real dead ted said less than a million to Reagan, the number was over 3 million. So if it is 11 million, give them their papers and five years in jail for anyone over the 11 million, caught after six months. Not one of the politicians will agree to a cap. They want slave labor, while millions of American citizens cannot find a job.
I am not a republican I am a conservative, and supporter of the rule of law. And refuse to support any of Roves dopes.
