If Israel were your true focus you would not be advocating arming Israel's enemies, in this case rebels who are avid jihadists with a very real hatred of Israel, who will then turn on Israel with likely chemical and maybe even nuclear weapons in their arsensal as soon as they gain power in Syria.

The information I found about al Quaeda linked rebels names them as Jabhat Al-Nusra formed in med 2011. In theory they were labeled as a terrorist org by part of te hUS government late in 2012.

Speaking in the past tense or not, this is like saying that the immigration situation is broken and we need to do something to fix it.

If he cannot support the rebels fully then he needs to say so and be honest.

If he wants to support "someone, in the future, who we can work with, blah, blah, blah", he needs to map out how this effects our national security.

Otherwise he's just flapping his gums for air time.

There is no issue of "timing" in this at all. Syria is a sovereign nation, their internal strife is their own to manage. It is not the business of the US, the UN, NATO, nor any other entity.
